Metabolic Application

Improve Your Biometric Results and Lose Weight

Are you at risk for Metabolic Syndrome?

How would you like to improve your biometric results (e.g., blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, etc.) and lose weight? Healthy eating, healthy weight management and physical activity can help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other serious health conditions.

Starting in October, University of Oklahoma will offer a 10-week program* which can provide you with tools to help you lose weight, reduce stress, increase exercise, and improve your health. It also addresses the precursors to heart disease, diabetes, stroke and a number of other conditions.

Participation will be limited and you must complete an application to be considered.

What is “Metabolic Syndrome?”

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of risk factors that can increase your chance of developing heart disease, diabetes, a stroke and a number of other conditions. According to a national health survey, more than 47 million adults have metabolic syndrome.**

These five questions can tell you about your risk for metabolic syndrome:

1. Blood pressure: Is yours 130/85 or higher?

2. HDL (good) cholesterol: Is your level less than 40 mg/dl for men; less than 50 mg/dl for women?

3. Fasting blood glucose: Is your glucose level above 100 mg/dl?

4. Triglycerides: Is yours above 150 mg/dl?

5. Waistline: Does yours measure 40” or more for men; 35” or more for women (when measured across the belly button)?

If you answered yes to three or more of the above, you may have metabolic syndrome. This means you have a significantly higher chance of developing a serious health condition in the next several years.

Through this program, you have the opportunity to lose weight, feel better, and decrease your risk factors for developing heart disease, diabetes, stroke and a number of other conditions.

How the Program Works

The program will focus on one of the primary issues that lead to metabolic syndrome – our eating habits. This program cuts through the hype and offers a way to eat the foods you like, by helping you create changes in your behavior instead of putting you on a “diet.”

Here is a summary of the program’s key features:

• The program focuses on weight loss and maintenance through eating and your individual hunger and hydration habits.

• It includes evaluating exercise, personal habits and personal needs.

• The program lasts for 10 weeks.

• You learn how to develop a lifestyle of eating the foods you like while improving your health and losing weight.

 Participation Basics
